Research and Consulting

For decades, Sierra Leonean agricultural policies have been driven by ad-hoc decision making. There have been very little research based policy making in the country. This had significantly negative effects on the policy environment needed to enable the agricultural sector to grow.  The few ongoing research activities have operated as standalone initiatives with limited inter-sectorial and interdisciplinary collaboration. It is SOBBA Initiatives intention to develop a research-policy system that contributes to correcting this anomaly.

Hence, SOBBA has added as a very significant arm to the company in research and consulting. The research professionals (from SLARI, Sierra Leone Statistics office, Njala University and the Seed Quality Control Unit) will carry out empirical research on relevant socio economic, policy, environmental and other scientific issues affecting agriculture in Sierra Leone and the African Continent as a whole.  Below is a synopsis of the different kinds of research activities SOBBA can provide with our partners:

This above list of research activities is not exhaustive. Our strategy is to develop policy briefs from all our research findings and make these briefs available to policy makers and other stakeholders. We also organize workshops/seminars in which we invite all stake holders to attend. The focus here is mainly to share research findings and encourage dialogue amongst all policy stakeholders.
