The Academy

 

SOBBA is currently developing a structured knowledge transfer framework in the form of an Academy. The SOBBA Academy will involve the effective transfer of best practices and farming knowledge over an 8 session period at SOBBA's farming communities. The current formation platform is designed as follows;

 

Training

  1. SOBBA currently hires 5 Agricultural consultants for its operations who have been conducting training, holding field days, inspecting farms & crops and providing daily guidance to SOBBA farms and contract farmers. Their services will be further utilized to help develop the capacity of SOBBA and the communities

  2. The expected duration will be eight training sessions conducted during the non-farming season when Farmers are not heavily involved in their farming activites.

  3. Follow-up will be conducted for farmers and individuals who sucessfully complete all sessions to encourage the implementation of the newly gained knowledge in their farming activities.

  4. Training materials and daily feeding and sustenance during the session days will be provided by SOBBA.

 

Target Groups 

  • Farmers- will be trained in the effective Pre & Post seed cultivation methods. The goal is to have a substantial outreach mechanism that will ensure that SOBBA and trained contract farmer increases seed productivity.

  • Youth & youth farming groups-that will be encouraged to take more interest in farming and activities to support the community and their education. This group will also be provided additional financial and technical support and the aim is for them to promote farming to the youth population by being the farming leaders in their communities.

  • Women groups- Women are inherently good custodians of small businesss finances. Participants will be trained and provided materials to take their seed products to the market and help them transform their backyard markets to small seed traders and seed trading groups

  • Tertiary educational insttitutions- SOBBA aims to partner with tertiary institutions and students in middel school will be introduced to farming technologies before they embark on their search for a career. SOBBA will do presentations at career days to encourage interest into Agricultural programs and SOBBA's services 

 

Long term sustainability of the academy

  • Periodic continuous development training and refresher courses will be held for contract farmers who have sucessfully completed training courses

  • Seeds and planting inputs will be provided to select contract/trained farmers to help them produce improved seed vareities.

  • Participants will be recomended by the community amd vetted by the leaders in the community to be the included in the academy. This will solicit buy-in and personal stack from the community to ensure that the projects and the academy thrives
