 Relevant organizational Partnerships Experience and advantages

 

 

SOBBA has forged strong partnerships with the research and farming bodies that have being very instrumental in helping the successful implementation of the first two phases of our Seed multiplication initiative. For R&D and seed multiplication purposes SOBBA maintains partnerships with the leading academic research institutions in all matters of agricultural and genetic research, as well as the local communities such as:

 

  • Sierra Leone Seed Certification Agency (SLESCA)- SOBBA was chosen as one of seven founding business organizations that will be helpioing the Government of Sierra Leone, Reserach groups and other agricultural institutions in drafting a seed policy that will be presented to the legislative body of Sierra Leone to ratify into the nations first seed Law

  • Sierra Leone Agricultural Research Institute (SLARI)- In addition to SOBBA’s project coordinator, SLARI researchers have conducted periodic farmer training seminars and conferences, made regular consultative visits to individual farmer groups and farms, provided valuable varieties and cuttings proved seed yields to farmer. Consultants have also provided valuable training and conducted farmer field days for contract farmers

  • The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and Food Security-Seed Quality Control Unit (MAFFS-SQCU)- personnel from this body has helped to direct, guide, monitor, SOBBA programs to be aligned in conjunction with the current nationwide seed development policy of Sierra Leone. Seeds bought and sold by SOBBA are tested for quality and for compliance with the seed testing and certification standards

  • Community partnerships- SOBBA has an extensive network with our trained farmers, contract farmers and local farming groups within the three communities (Mayemi-Khumalo, Markoloh, Mange-Burreh) that we currently have ongoing activities. Our relationship is further strengthened by the direct involvement in our farming and dissemination activities by the village heads and section chiefs. 

  • Contract farmers- SOBBA currently has established relationships with 50 contract farmers who periodically help cultivate SOBBA seeds. Demonstration plots are also developed on some of these farmers farms.

  • Certified seed bodies and groups- SOBBA procures seeds from some seed organizations and has linkages with the network of seed sellers and growers.
